Massage is one of the oldest treatments of applying hand/body pressure over the postural muscles of the body to release knots, tightness, tension and stress in muscle fibres. Massage has long been recognised for its beneficial properties. Nowadays there are many different types of massage used to treat a variety of muscular and soft tissue disorders, or simply to reduce stress and tension and so promote calm and relaxation. What is Therapeutic Massage?
This style of massage is also known as remedial or deep tissue massage. It is designed to address deeper layers of muscle tissue which have become tense, causing chronic pain and injury. It can be used to treat tendonitis, arthritis, sports injuries, muscle tears and tissue trauma. The emphasis of this massage is on deeper strokes moving the blood towards the heart. It aids with cleansing the body of toxins by improving blood and lymphatic circulation.Type of massages that I do
This is a relaxing and nurturing massage style, based on the strokes invented by the father of modern massage, Swedish gymnast and fencing master Per Henrik Ling. Hacking and cupping strokes are used to breakdown knotted muscles - this helps to increase blood circulation. Most of the strokes used in this type of massage are firm and flowing using medium pressure. Swedish massage forms the basis of most western massage. Swedish massage helps to melt away tension, anxiety and modern life stresses! This type of massage most likely to send you to sleep.
The word 'holistic' came from a Greek word 'holos' which means 'whole'. A holistic massage approach is based on the idea that a human-being function in a separable whole - the mind, body and spirit. It is a form of flowing, gentle and comforting massage using massage oil, specifically aimed to de-stress the body and mind. Holistic massage helps to free up the body, mind and spirit. It can help the stimulation of the parasymphathetic nervous system which unstress the body and mind, improves digestive system, encourages the productions of blood and elimination of toxins. This is one of the most requested massage my clients asked. Most clients feel relaxed and more mobile physically and mentally after a holistic massage - and they may have this feeling for several days. I recommend clients to drink lots of water after a massage to aid the removal of toxins and to prevent headache or symptoms of a cold. Holistic massage can help stress symptoms such as tension headaches, backache, insomnia, IBS (Irritable Bowen Syndrome), stiff and aching shoulders.
I do suggest that clients seek their GPs opinion in the first instance if they are suffering from any physical symptoms that causes them discomforts - this will help them feel safer that they have had a professional medical opinion.
The Javanese Lulur, pronounced "lu-lur" is a luxurious form of ritual from the Royal Palaces of Jogyakarta in Central Java, Indonesia. This ancient tradition usually carried out to prepare the skin of a bride to be for 40 days, every day prior to the wedding ceremony. Lulur would be given to the bride to be by the other women in the family, as a way of privately having time together to pass on wisdom and nuturing. Additionally, it is believed that the more relaxed the bride is, the more likely she will conceive on the honeymoon night. In modern times, the Javanese lulur is now more readily available internationally, and is a popular spa treatment for men and women, not only pre-wedding! Lulur massage is a great for skin exfoliation! Your body will be massaged with exotic and romantic JAMU Jasmine Frangipani powder mixed with milk or water and immediately removed using soft downward strokes. It is followed with full-fat yogurt to activate the skin and further remove the lulur powder. The whole process is finished with your body being massaged with a body lotion. This massage will leave you feeling 'totally and utterly relaxed and almost like royalty!'
Indonesian Traditional Massage which includes Javanese and Balinese massage is similar to Ayurvedic massage and dates back almost as far as Chinese. It could be regarded as one of the original oil based massages.
It is a combination of ancient therapeutic techniques whose variety is endless.
In Indonesian massage pushing techniques predominate, working very deeply to ease muscle and joint pain. Indonesian Traditional Massage is an ancient system of healing which relies upon deep pressure massage to break down tensely knotted tissue and promote harmony of body, mind and soul.
Unlike other oil based forms of Western massage, Indonesian techniques are designed to give very deep stimulation to the soft tissues. These techniques particularly affect the connective tissue of the muscles - the myofascia and tendons. It is a highly effective treatment for sports injuries.
Oil is used for Indonesian Massage, which is strongly therapeutic, and has a beneficial effect on the body's circulation and lymphatic system by releasing it's regenerative and self healing powers.
It is an ancient technique that finds its place in the modern world of healing. Cupping Massage is a modified version of the common practice of cupping therapy, used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the results that this simple treatment produces are impressive. Through suction and negative pressure, cupping massage releases rigid soft tissue; drain excess fluids and toxins; loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue; and bring blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles.
The therapeutic applications of cupping have been documented through several thousand years of clinical experience. Cupping is used extensively in TCM and has now been adapted for other health-care modalities, including massage therapy and chiropractic. Cupping Massage intensifies the therapeutic aspect of traditional cupping and is an effective addition to therapeutic massage thus releases deep tensions on the tissues. The therapy is result-oriented, and the client response is remarkable.
Cupping therapy was used in Egypt dating back from 3,500 years ago, where its use is found in hieroglyphic writing. The earliest recorded use of Cupping is from the famous Taoist alchemist and herbalist, Ge Hong (281–341 A.D.). In ancient Greece, Hippocrates recommended the use of cups for a variety of ailments, while in the early 1900’s eminent British physician, Sir Arthur Keith, wrote how he witnessed Cupping performed with excellent results. Suction Cup Therapies remained a constant in the professional medical treatment throughout Europe. It was practiced by such famous physicians as Galen (131-200AD), Paracelsus(1493-1541), Ambroise Pare (1509-90) and Charles Kennedy (1826).
Massage cupping is a powerful technique used for breaking up localised congestion, increasing blood circulation and improving the health and well-being of the body.
The suction process allows the blood to come to the area that is experiencing pain, and supply nutrients for healing.
If you suffer from back pain, neck pain, or any type of chronic pain, cupping therapy can be a beneficial treatment method.
Are There Any Side Effects Of Massage Cupping?
The most common side effects of massage cupping are bruising, or sore skin around the treatment area. For highly inflamed areas, the suction cupping may need to last for only two to four minutes.
Some people may experience a worsening in pain for the first day or so after treatment. However, after this short period, healing will begin and side effects of massage cupping will be reduced.
